Emergency.

Filmmaker Michael Moore believes that the Democratic party should declare a national emergency. The director of Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine made his announcement on Instagram yesterday.

He wrote, "The Democratic Party needs to declare a National Emergency. For the first time in our history, the President of the United States and his staff are under investigation for espionage." He added that, "No bill he supports, no Supreme Court nominee he has named, can be decided while he is under a criminal investigation. His presidency has no legitimacy until the FBI - and an independent investigative committee -- discovers the truth."

His post came only a day after FBI director James Comey testified that the FBI was investigating possible links between the Russian government and Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

That declaration has also pushed some Democratic leaders to call for halting government business. Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer has called for a halt on the plans to vote for Trump's Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, whose confirmation hearings are this week. It remains to be seen if more moderate members of the Democratic Party will join the cause and also call for Gorsuch's nomination to be put on hold for the time being.

This, however, isn't the first time that the FBI has been called to investigate a President of the United States. Slate.com notes that several presidents-- including Bill Clinton-- were investigated while in office.
