An extraordinarily talented and gifted young woman, Ella Willken, turned in an excellent and chilling harp cover of the wildly popular praise and worship song “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord).”

The Lord has gifted select individuals with the ability to produce and compose sweet and ear-pleasing sounds. Some of those people can pick up any instrument and immediately play it. Others may have been blessed with the voice of an angel, and still others might be able to write some of the most moving, heartfelt lyrics you’ve ever heard.

Whatever their specific skills, musicians are talented people. It’s always beautiful to see when those blessed with musical talents use them to bring glory and honor to His name. In a clip posted on YouTube, Ella used an often forgotten and underutilized instrument to produce some beautiful sounds.

In the nearly three-and-a-half-minute clip, the young woman plucks and strums the harp, playing a tune that is very familiar to most: Matt Redman’s “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord).” This cover is sure to be unlike any other cover of the praise and worship song you’ve ever heard, and yet, it may be one of the most beautiful.

Even though the lyrics are not sung in the clip, you’ll likely find yourself providing the lyrics and the vocals. It’s one of those tunes that whenever you hear it, you can’t help but sing along, especially that lovely chorus.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul

Worship His holy name

Whether the young woman sings the lyrics or not, it’s abundantly clear that she is incredibly talented. The skill and precision she uses to play the harp are mind-blowing. Also, she never misses a note or plays a false chord throughout the clip.

This video release is timed perfectly for the start of High School and College football programs across the US. Think of all the football players that are hitting the field this year with dreams of making “The” touchdown and giving thanks for the support and opportunities that brought them to that point. In this video, a high school football player describes how his team’s senior year is going to be incredible and how he prays when he scores. He is playing for his mama who passed away when she was 38 years old. She prayed for him each time he hit the field. His season is successful and he signs a college scholarship so he can continue to pray to God when he scores and to play for his mama. Right from the start, Riley Clemmons is seen with a band in a dimly lit room. There is authenticity, and she vulnerably sings about our hard times in life and how God knows the tears that we cry.

The chorus sings out:

He's there weeping with you

Jesus cries too’

The tone painting on this song is incredible. There are such unexpected vocal moments. It invites you to pour out your heart and cry out your tears when you are hurting and confused. Riley sings out and invites you to be honest and open with your Savior. Life is hard, and it is great to have music that invites our emotions to the cross of Christ. 

Her singing is an outcry to the Lord and is beautifully done. The simplicity of this music video matches the simplicity of the song. It is the shortest verse in Scripture but one of the most profound. There is great depth in the fact that our God, our Savior, wept. Jesus cried because He came into this world to fully take on the suffering of all of humanity. He did not enjoy the death of loved ones like Lazarus, and He was perfectly human and perfectly God. 

As we listen to this song and reflect on our own hardships and tears, Riley reminds us to rest in the truth that Jesus is there weeping with us. He empathizes with our sorrow, loss, hurt, and confusion. He welcomes our pain and questions and sits with us in our tears. In fact, Scripture tells us that He catches every tear that we have in His bottle. (Psalm 56:8) He cares for you personally and what is going on, and He loves His children.
