Booker Introduces Bill Calling for Reparations for Slavery

Democratic presidential hopeful Cory Booker on Monday introduced a bill that would look into the idea of reparations for descendants of slaves.

Fox News reports the senator from New Jersey said Monday that “this bill is a way of addressing head-on the persistence of racism, white supremacy, and implicit racial bias in our country.”

Booker’s measure is a Senate companion to a bill introduced in the House by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.

The idea of slavery reparations is at least partially backed by at least eight other Democratic presidential contenders.

Critics say such a move could cost several trillion dollars and would do nothing to solve the issue of racism.
