A bill introduced to the New York City Council this week seeks to allow illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses. The Daily News reports the legislation makes the case that “undocumented immigrants” should be able to get the IDs because it would make for safer roads.

Democrat City Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez, who introduced the bill Wednesday, said it was a “great opportunity” to make the state safer, and would “challenge President Trump” by allowing illegals to have a legal ID.

Similar policy proposals have stalled before. In 2007, then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer dropped plans to offer the IDs after unrelenting criticism.
