In response to Republican Sen. Susan Collins’ vote to confirm new Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Susan Rice, national security adviser under former President Obama, is now considering a run against Collins.
Speaking in New York over the weekend, Rice, of the Benghazi scandal fame, said Collins “betrayed women across this country” for casting a deciding vote to confirm Kavanaugh.
Collins questioned whether Rice even has a legitimate connection to Maine to be able to run for the Senate seat.
After giving a moving speech on the Senate floor explaining her decision, Collins returned to Maine late Saturday after Kavanaugh was sworn into office.
She said Sunday that despite the presence of protesters outside her home, the response from her constituents has been “overwhelmingly positive.”
