(The Center Square) – A day after launching a new political action committee to support Democratic Party candidates around the country, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker joined Texas Democrats at an event in Dallas on Wednesday.

Pritzker spoke just hours before Republicans opened a two-night convention in Dallas and said the GOP is clinically deranged and out of touch.

“And of course, we have Donald Trump himself, a president suffering from dementia,” Pritzker said.

The governor recalled welcoming 40 Democratic lawmakers who left Texas in August 2025 to deny that state’s Republicans a quorum needed to pass new congressional maps.

“As it turns out, their resistance to the corrupt, mid-decade redistricting in Texas was the canary in the coal mine,” Pritzker said.

Pritzker said Texas Democrats set an example for the rest of America.

“They are why Illinois got Indiana to back down from changing their map and why the people of Missouri took their MAGA secretary of state to court,” Pritzker said.

Pritzker’s Ready for the Fight political action committee launched on Tuesday and is expected to spend at least $20 million on Democratic candidates in the November election.

Last month, the governor added $65 million to his gubernatorial campaign fund.

Since his first run for governor in 2018, Pritzker has spent more than $400 million on campaigns for himself and other Democratic Party candidates.

Illinois House Republican Leader Tony McCombie, R-Savanna, said Pritzker can’t keep blaming Trump for Illinois’ problems.

“His new PAC and latest trip to Texas make his priorities clear: national ambition over Illinois families. Instead of trying to buy his way onto the national stage, he should focus on the state he was elected to lead,” McCombie said in a statement to The Center Square.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey said Pritzker has failed to consider Illinois taxpayers.

“I think in J.B. Pritzker's world, I honestly believe this, that he just thinks things just function and everything works out great because the man, he's a trust fund billionaire. He's never had to create. He’s never had to build,” Bailey.
