Injured Santana allowed to become free agent by Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Injured switch-hitting outfielder Danny Santana is a free agent after the Texas Rangers didn't offer him a contract for 2021. He is still recovering from right elbow surgery and isn't expected to be ready for the start of next season. The Rangers also didn’t tender 2021 contracts to right-hander Jimmy Herget and outfielder Scott Heineman. Santana was the team's top player in a utility role in 2019, and went into this year as the starting center fielder. He played only 15 games and was on the injured list twice before surgery on September 9.
